Cancun Water Sports

Cancun DivingWater enthusiasts will be in heaven in Cancun. The beautiful turquoise swells of the Caribbean Sea, combined with idyllic weather (daytime temps are usually between 81° and 95° F), make it a divine setting for a vast array of water sports.

Most of the beachfront hotels have recreational equipment available -- everything from surfboards, kayaks, jet skis and wave runners to more unusual gadgetry like water bikes. In addition, Cancun is a mecca for scuba diving, snorkeling and snuba, which combines scuba and snorkeling apparatus. The area's transparent waters are filled with wondrous sights. Visitors can explore coral beds and reefs while observing all walks of undersea life.

Those who are interested in sport fishing also have many types of trips to consider. Anglers can stay on shore and go fly fishing in Cancun's nearby lagoon system for tarpon, bonefish, barracuda, sea trout and red snapper. Deep sea fishermen might opt to voyage out on the sea and cast their reels for sailfish, marlin, bonito, tuna, grouper and mutton snapper.

There are many other ways to enjoy being out on the water -- or even above it. Day and evening sightseeing cruises are offered around the peaceful Bahía de Mujeres, the mirror-like Laguna Nichupté and the scenic Caribbean Sea. More ambitious visitors can rent a kayak, motorboat or sailboat and explore on their own. Others who are in search of thrills might want to strap on a colorful parachute and try parasailing in order to float high above the picturesque sand and surf.

Finally, families looking for fun and a good soaking need not despair. There are water parks, pirate-themed cruises and dolphin encounters that are appropriate for all ages.

Cancun DivingA great deal of excitement lies beneath the water in Cancun. There are fantastic opportunities for scuba diving, snorkeling and snuba. Countless dive shops line the hotel zone. They can accommodate divers of all skill levels. For example, visitors can take introductory scuba classes or join a dive master program. The dive shops also offer snorkeling and snuba equipment for people who are ready to jump in and explore the area’s beautiful aquatic world.
