My wife and I together with daughter and partner went to Cancun through Best@Travel in London. The travel agency was excellent, organised, thoughtful, and the holiday was excellent value for money.
The Fiesta Condesa Americana was wonderful. The hotel is spotless, and the rooms huge (although the bathrooms are rather less than luxury standard).
The hotel has two beautiful pools, one of which is HUGE - around 100 m long.
All the staff (with just two exceptions) are great - helpful, friendly, funny without being impertinent, warm and attentive without being intrusive, and really keen and well-trained - a really terrifiv service ethos.
Food overall was of absolutely gourmet standard. The ceviches and fish/shellfish cocktails are FABULOUS (though you have to like chili). The Mexican restaurant (there are 4 a la cart restaurants) had some exquisite dishes, and the Italian restaurant served one of the best beef carpaccios I've ever eaten. However the maitre in the Italian is snobby and snotty, as is his female assistant. We had repeated problems with the attitude of both of them, which was sad given the superb levels of service everywhere else, and the quality of the food itself.
The hotel also had their own in-house agent to organise tours and visits and these are also efficient and helpful. Chichen Itza is an absolute must, although it's quite a long treck, and the speedboat/snorkelling was great fun. For snorkelling, it's better to take a day in Isla Mujeres and do it independently through Casa del Buceo, who are just fantastic. This is less than half the pricce of doing it with one of the operators and also smaller groups.< less

We went as a family: two adults, one 20 year old and an 11 year old. Honestly, this was one of the best hotels we stayed out. It is located just 15 minutes from the airport. The staff is friendly and helpful and my youngest daughter loved the kids club (she didn't want to leave). If you want to leave the hotel at all, you can go by bus to the market or to clubs.
We had a junior suite which was very nice, with two rooms and two bathrooms. The view from the balcony was amazing! The pool was area was very clean and the pool was never crowded, but there was always something to do. The beach had white sand and clear water. However, this is one down side of the hotel. The water itself is not as calm as some other places, and one day it was just to choppy to swim in. But it didn't matter for us, we just went to the pool.
The bars are amazing and there is always someone asking you if you want a drink, whether in the lobby, the pool or at the beach. The food was fantastic! We went to all the restaurants, though the Italian one was the best. Be warned: there is a wait for the Italian on, so get there early! The buffet was good but didn't have to much to chose from. The outside stand were really nice, especially the seafood one with the ceviche and fish tacos! Room service was very good to. The staff was always very courteous and helpful. We loved it there and can't wait to go back.< less

Did not restock my mini bar very often. Went to front desk to let them know and they still didn't stock it very often.
Forgot to call me for my departure wake up call.
Other than very minor issue I would definately recommend this hotel.
Had a great time.< less

I believe I offer a balanced viewpoint having been to different hotels in 10 different Caribbean islands and Mexico. This hotel featured the best service and fine dining of any I have visited. My girlfriend dropped her napkin and another was handed to her without needing to ask. Waiters find you anywhere on the beach or pool area without any expectation for a tip. The room was spacious and comfortable. Daily cleaning and fridge restocking was impeccable. We ate five meals a day! I have seen more extensive buffets but if there was nothing to our liking we took in one of the three fine dining restaurants. All were excellent but only offered a limited amount of choices. I was surprised to see only two traditional dishes at the Mexican restaurant. I thought it was unusual to offer more fish choices then ethnic. The beach is wide, beautiful, well maintained and highly supervised for safety. I looked forward to the quality beach volleyball games 2x a day.
The only negative marks I give the resort were its lack of nightlife at the resort. They rely on the great selection of big name bar/dance clubs as their source of nightly activity. They obviously get a nice kickback for this as they charge 40-55 dollars for a night out. We spent 2 bucks for the bus ride and negiotiated a lower price to gain entry to one of the clubs. Much more cost effective. The shows after dinner are child oriented or just plain lame with the exception of the Michael Jackson Show which would compare to any Vegas show. Activities are conducted throughout the day for adults. I wish they would have served at least one meal outdoors. Fish and shrimp tacos are awesome and the fried food at the other snack shack is outstanding. Their breading is light and tasty on all the food that is bad for you. One other note, as a teacher I wanted no part of kids and they were never an issue around the pool or during the day. The resort keeps them very occupied and away from adults trying to relax or have fun. You must hope you do not get a room with 2-3 loud youngsters however.< less

Hotel is tired and old, however very acceptable. Food is ok. Main problem with the hotel is the lack of a pool that can be heated in the off season. I have just returned from the hotel reception to see if there was somewhere else close by that I could take my kids (1 & 3) too swim. The response - take them to the Marina and buy a wetsuit!!? The fact no one is using the pool here appears to pass the management by.... Probably best staying somewhere else later in the year, I wish I was!< less
