Ixtapa Golf Courses

Two world-class golf courses are available to visitors of this beach destination, with one on either side of Ixtapa's hotel strip. Golfers should be wary of retrieving stray balls from either courses' water hazards, as crocodiles are common throughout the area.

Amenities: The club offers a driving range and putting green, as well as clinics for beginners, women and families. Club rentals are available, as are carts and trollies. A pro shop stocked with goods is on site and guests can enjoy a drink or snack at the 19th hole, just upstairs from the clubhouse.

This Robert Trent Jones, Jr, designed course opened in 1977 on the grounds of a former coconut plantation along the Pacific shoreline and Ixtapa Bay. With the Sierra Madre mountains as a picturesque backdrop, the par 72, 6,898-yard course doubles as a wildlife preserve, filled with native birds like macaws and parrots and sprinkled with fruit-bearing trees and tropical flowers.

Amenities: Along with 18 holes, this waterfront course also houses a putting green and driving range. The Spanish-style clubhouse features a restaurant, lounge and balconies overlooking the marina and golf course. Other facilities include tennis courts, men's and women's locker rooms, a fully-stocked pro shop and a swimming pool.

Designed by world-renowned golf course architect Robert von Hagge in 1994, this par 72, 6793-yard course is full of water inlets, bridges and dunes-style terrain. The par 5 18th hole is known as El Hoyo del Diablo (the Devil's Hole) for its narrow, bunker-filled green right along the waterfront.
