A fun and romantic resort on the shores of the Pacific coast, Hotel Playa Mazatlan makes for a very special getaway. Opened in 1955, it boasts a beautiful and tranquil atmosphere. The gardens are filled with waterfalls, koi ponds, fountains and streams -- all teeming with water lilies. The architecture also reflects the essence of Mexico by evoking the feel of a hacienda with open-air courtyards and arched portals.

The 330 elegantly appointed rooms and suites all offer balconies with fine views of either the lush gardens or the deep blue ocean. They are suitable for couples, families and groups of all sizes. Each room features charming décor and ceramic floor tiling. Among the standard amenities are a closet, a satellite TV and wireless internet access.

Guests at Hotel Playa Mazatlan can choose from a room-only plan or the semi-inclusive package, which includes all their meals and drinks. The resort's kitchen brigade prides itself in cooking up a diverse range of cuisines. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served daily in La Terraza, the main restaurant. Along with mouth-watering Mexican specialties, including fajitas and carne asada, there are plenty of international dishes and fresh local seafood. With the sound of the ocean in the background, guests can also grab a bite in the afternoon -- like a burger, slice of pizza or sandwich -- from the beachside Nachos & Ritas snack bar.

One other dining option is the resort's renowned La Original Fiesta Mexicana dinner show, which has been staged here for more than 40 years. Capturing the colorful traditions of Mexico through live music and dance, guests will also enjoy an extravagant buffet as well as an open bar.

From swimming in one of three heated pools to getting an oceanfront massage, Hotel Playa Mazatlan has everything to offer for your vacation. Explore miles of golden sand beaches, where you can swim, surf, kayak or just soak in the sun. Giant palapas provide shade when the sun becomes too strong.

The gym is fully equipped for fitness buffs and a trainer is on hand to give assistance or create a custom workout for you. Alternatively, the spa has a peaceful rustic cottage setting. Feel your troubles melt away as you take a private shower or relax in the granite sauna. 

In July of 2010, Hotel Playa Mazatlan opened Playa Adventure. This new facility offers a 400-foot oceanfront zipline, climbing walls and rappel stations. Plus, guests can also experience a temazcal, which is a traditional Mayan steam room, and a cenote-style swimming grotto here. In addition, Playa Adventure hosts the annual release of endangered baby sea turtles in November.

If guests want to explore the area, the resort's concierge can book a wide variety of activities including city tours, eco-tours, whale watching cruises, sea kayaking adventures and sport fishing charters.
