Playa del Carmen Riviera Maya Nightclubs and Bars

Riviera Maya NightclubsThe Riviera Maya encompasses the area along the Yucatán Peninsula from Cancun to Tulum. When it comes to nightlife you have the option of indulging in an array of diverse bars, restaurants, lounges and nightclubs found along the coast. However, the nightlife scene is not as built up in the southern part of the Riviera Maya near Xcaret, Akumal and Tulum as it is in Playa del Carmen and Cancun.

Playa del Carmen doesn't offer the wild nightlife scene that you can find in Cancun. However, there are plenty of fun places to go if you're in the mood for a few drinks or some late-night dancing. Here you'll find less of a rowdy spring break vibe and more of a chic party atmosphere that caters to guests seeking more than just the next wet T-shirt contest. The majority of nightlife venues are located on or around Fifth Avenue or on the beach. With Playa del Carmen being home to a mix of people from all over the world, the city offers a bohemian feel, especially when it comes to nightlife.

Most of the nighttime diversions in southern Riviera Maya can be found at resorts that feature bars and live entertainment. Getting to Playa del Carmen or Cancun from Tulum is about a 30 minute to one hour drive and a taxi costs between $30 (Playa del Carmen) and $65 (to Cancun). You can still experience the wild nightlife scene in Cancun even if you're not staying there, but we recommend that you make a trip out of it and stay overnight at a hotel to avoid the sometimes sketchy service in the early morning hours.
