Charming and colorful, the RIU Playacar is an all-inclusive resort surrounded by four acres of lush tropical gardens and set along a strip of white sand beach on the Riviera Maya. Located about 15 minutes from the heart of Playa del Carmen, the hotel offers both quiet beachfront relaxation and a good jumping off point to experience many of the area's popular attractions.

The resort's design has a Caribbean flavor with buildings painted bright tropical yellow, pinks and greens. Its welcoming atmosphere and more intimate setting compared to some of the huge megaresorts in the area attracts many families.

The hotel features two pools, a kids' pool, a spa tub and convenient access to Mexican street, which is home to a fitness center, a privately operated full-service spa and various shops. Mexican Street is located in front of the resort's sister property, the RIU Yucatán. Through the all-inclusive plan, guests have access to some of the facilities and restaurants at the RIU Yucatán.

The RIU Playacar is home to 396 guest rooms and suites situated in two three-story wings of the main building. All of the rooms include either a terrace or balcony and garden views. The rooms are furnished with Caribbean décor including brightly colored linens, ceramic tile floors, flowered drapes and rattan furniture.

Guests will enjoy unlimited meals and drinks at the resort's two restaurants included in the all-inclusive plan. Located in the center of the complex, El Porche is the resort's main restaurant. It serves international buffet-style meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Turquesa is an open-air restaurant located near the beach. It serves either a Mediterranean or steakhouse menu and is open for lunch and dinner.

There are also several bars where guests can indulge in the all-inclusive plan's unlimited domestic and imported alcoholic beverages, tropical juice cocktails and soft drinks menu. There is a lobby bar, swim-up bar and La Cumbia Bar, which features plush seating and a relaxing environment to enjoy a cocktail. Guests also have the option of getting meals and drinks at the RIU Yucatán and RIU Tequila.

While relaxing by the pool or on the beach can be inviting, there are plenty of activities available for guests to enjoy on site through all-inclusive amenities. At the resort, guests will find two hard-surface tennis courts and equipment for various water sports including windsurfing, snorkeling, surfing/boogie boarding, kayaking, sailing and scuba diving. The hotel also features a complimentary introductory diving lesson in the pool. There is also a daily activities program for adults featuring additional activities. Guests who want to hit the gym can use the fitness center on Mexican Street at the RIU Yucatán.

Located less than a mile away from the hotel is a par 72, 18-hole golf course. In Riviera Maya guests can also find various other water-related sports, horseback riding, biking and hiking.

The RIU Playacar offers plenty of amenities for guests of all ages. The Kids' Club features a daily supervised activities program for children ages 4-12, which includes pool and beach games, art classes and talent shows. There is also a children's playground at the hotel. Babysitting services are available for an additional charge.

In the evening, the hotel hosts nightly live music and dance shows. Guests also get complimentary access and drinks to La Piñata disco at the RIU Tequila.
