The hacienda-style beachfront RIU Yucatán is conveniently located in the Playacar resort complex next to a golf course. Located in Playa del Carmen, between Cancun and Tulum, this hotel is surrounded by tropical vegetation and is located at the center point of the Mayan Riviera. The hotel's 507 rooms are furnished in colorful Mexican décor and are distributed across two floors. Rooms feature either a balcony or a patio and include replenished minibars and liquor dispensers and cable televisions. The suites have separate living rooms and bathtubs and bidets in the bathroom.

The recreational exchange program also gives guests access to the various activities featured at the three other RIU hotels. Guests who want to spend some time on the green can take a swing at the nearby 18-hole world-class Playacar Golf Course. The course is located 1 kilometer from the hotel, and there is a surcharge.

The dining options at the RIU Yucatán range from terrace seating at La Hacienda, which offers a buffet and cook-to-order menu, to meals served poolside at La Margarita. There are four restaurants and five bars on site, including two poolside swim-up bars. Grill and Steakhouse is one of the four restaurants and is located on the beach. Shanghai is another restaurant featuring Asian cuisine and a buffet-style dinner. When night falls, the action heats up at La Pinata, a nightclub at the RIU Tequila. Through the all-inclusive plan, guests at the RIU Yucatán get complimentary entry and drinks at the nightclub.

Aside from all the activities offered at the hotel, Playa del Carmen has countless attractions. The area is small enough to explore on foot but the assortment of shops and restaurants give it a cosmopolitan feel that puts everything right at your fingertips. The area is a common starting point for taking day trips to some of the area's most popular sites including Xcaret, Xel-Há, Tulum and other attractions located on the peninsula. Guests also have easy access to a passenger ferry that makes trips to Cozumel.

Guests looking to experience some of the area's history won't want to miss the various Mayan ruins sites located nearby. The RIU Yucatán is near the Mayan ruins of Cobra, one of the most historic sites in the region. The site was once inhabited by 40,000 people between the years 800 and 1100. Standing 42 meters high, the Great Pyramid is another amazing relic from the past. It is the tallest structure in the Yucatán Peninsula, offering a spectacular view from the top.

Along with these historic ruins, guests can also enjoy the area's immaculate beaches. Surrounded by a large coral reef, this area offers the perfect seascape for snorkeling and scuba diving. In Playa del Carmen and the surrounding area there are many cenotes, water bodies and sink holes that run through underground caverns. Guests can experience the world's largest system of underground caves at Nohoch nah Chich. Xcaret is another cenote located a few kilometers from Playa del Carmen. Here, guests will experience beautiful turquoise waters populated by red flamingos and a natural lagoon suitable for diving.
